No, this isn't a title to a novel or movie!  But,  it is curious isn't it?!  You may not even realize it, but there are so many mysteries underneath us right here, right now.  Who stepped where you are stepping right now 50  or 100 years ago?  That flat piece of land past that tall old oak tree... how many lovers picnic blankets laid right there?  One random bottle found at the edge of your woods... how did it get there, are there more???  Fascinating  isn't it?!

Metal detecting is not just about rushing to find the best item while digging in the dirt!  Metal detecting is a process, almost a science.  Anyone can just buy a metal detector and start beeping away, digging holes.  BUT, it takes a Detectorist to unearth the stories that are under our feet. 

North Pittsburgh Past Finders metal detecting Detectorists  love the thrill of the hunt, wondering what may be under the soil that they dig! Being a detectorist is a slow process, it takes time and patience.  Our NPPF members often research the area that they are about to metal detect on, to determine their strategy on where to dig in order to find the most history in the soil.  It would be foolish to just start digging, rushing, letting the excitement of finding that amazing relic, piece of history,  get to our heads.   NPPF detectorist take pride in what we do, keeping the past in the present.
