NORTH PITTSBURGH PAST FINDERS NPPF METAL DETECTING CLUB NEWS
Metal detecting is a great hobby, but, it is not all about finding physical treasure! Sure, that is always amazing, but one of the nice things about this hobby is the many ways you can use your skills to find the intangible treasure of helping others in your community.
Over the years, North Pittsburgh Past Finders Metal Detecting Club (NPPF) has helped numerous people in the community find lost items like wedding rings, keys, and even hearing aids. The club has assisted police officers and has helped local companies become experts in their specific models of metal detectors. This Winter, NPPF had the opportunity to help our community become educated in the hobby of metal detecting through the Shaler North Hills Library Metal Detector Loan Program. During the warm-weather months, the library lends out a metal detector, along with the essential tools you need to enjoy the hobby. Now that it is Winter, the library (SNHL) reached out to NPPF to see if we can take a look at their detector and accessories and make sure everything is in working order. The library takes great care of their detector and accessories. With only a little bit of cleaning, the items were good as new, and put away for storage until the Spring. The club looks forward to working with SNHL to come up with a tips sheet for people who borrow their detector, and we are also working on a fun training/outing in the Spring/Summer, to allow people a little more hands-on experience before they take out the machine and search for treasure!
